Roland suffered a cardiac arrest in 2014.  Sara his wife performed CPR until the first responder Malcolm Kirk arrived.  Using his defibrillator, he was able to restart Rolands heart. 

After three nights in ACU at The City Hospital and a period of Rehabilitation, Roland stated running again to maintain his health and fitness.  During this period he found a Facebook group called Cardiac Athletes and in October 2015 he organised the first UK Meet Up of the group.

It has become an annual event and even involves a challenge between the Cardiac Athletes and the Trent Cardiac Centre Staff. The results are “interesting”.
